I'm lucky to be based in picturesque Lower Brailes, on the Warwickshire Oxfordshire borders. which is a typical chocolate box north cotswold village.
when i'm not working i spend time walking my dog and rebuilding my 1881 Ransome Head and Jeffries Portable steam engine. Number 5141.
Sold to G Thurlow in march 1881 and returned as a part ex to be resold abroard in 1909 to drive a chillean saw mill. I'm slowly restoring it.
Another similar engine in the 1883 catalogue driving a mill.
My other Engine is a Barrows and Carmichael Portable of C1863-7, built in Banbury on canal street, it is the only surviving Barrows and carmichael engine in the world.
It has been restored and had a new firebox, front barrel smoke box and chimney as well as other bits rebuilt. It has several unusual feaures including the odd layout (for a portable) and the regulator running through the boiler like the early steam locomotives. it originally stood working a carpenters shop and driving repaired machines on test in Buckden huntingdonshire for the Thompson family. It was rescued by the late Stan Burgess in the late 60s/ 70s.
